GENRE Cinematic Folk
SOUNDS LIKE Iron & Wine, Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, S. Carey

"Atmospheric & elemental" - Acoustic Magazine (UK)

Byron bay based songwriter Mark Ridout writes lush and emotive 'cinematic folk' soundtracks. With a longstanding love for film music, the songs are composed, in part, for marriage with moving picture.

The London born singer-songsmith has supported the likes of Ed Sheeran and Kate Miller-Heidke, performing at renowned UK venues such as The Troubadour and The Bedford, and toured the United States and India before moving to live in Australia in 2010.  He also formed a band project called Mark Ridout & the Rhythm, a sun-soaked sound they called 'Ocean Funk', releasing two eps; Dive into the Water Parts 1 & 2.

His voice has been described as "compelling and hugely expressive" (Hotpress Magazine, UK), has reviewed music for BBC radio and worked in psychiatric and mental health institutions in both England and Australia, attributing these experiences as a inspiration for his writing; “I had a real look at what it means to be lost, and the fragility of the human spirit, but the extreme beauty in those moments of realness, and how we all want to be whole, and seen.”

His song 'All my Sides' featured on Australian feature film; Weavil (2018, dir. Mark Lipkin)

Mark released his debut 'cinematic folk' single FLOOD April '18, with his follow up released INSIDE A DREAM later the same year.
