Byron Bay 'Ocean funk' band Mark Ridout & the Rhythm play rousing & uplifting heart songs inspired by love, nature and self discovery.

Born in London, Singer songwriter Mark Ridout has supported the likes of Ed Sheeran and Kate Miller-Heidke, playing renowned UK venues such as The Troubadour and The Bedford, and toured the United States and India before moving to live in Australia in 2010. He gigged extensively around the Byron Bay & Gold Coast shires, both solo and with a variety of musicians. His voice has been described as "compelling & hugely expressive" (Hotpress Magazine, UK). 

It was when he met east coast virtuoso drummer Damian Campbell (Cheap Fakes, Dubarray) that the band he had been dreaming up his whole life started manifesting. The duo recorded their debut Ep; 'Dive into the Water' with Jordan Power (Xavier Rudd, Angus Stone) in the summer of 2016. After a year as a duo Ross Hayden (bass) and Juan Salvador (guitar) completed the line up in 2018.

As a band, they have been labelled "Perfect for the summer!" (My Random Jukebox) having played Splendour in the Grass (AU), Byron bay Surf Fest (AU) twice, Mullumbimby Music Festival (AU) & Brighton Fringe Festival (UK), and did their first tour in Bali. This vibrant band of brothers now prepare to release their eagerly anticipated follow-up 'Dive into the Water Part 2' (Produced by Garrett Kato; Pete Murray, Kyle Lionhart) in March 2018.

This band of brothers bring a laid back but dance-floor-filling blend of ska,funk, folk and reggae they deliciously describe as 'Ocean Funk’.

Byron bay based songwriter Mark Ridout writes lush and emotive 'cinematic folk' soundtracks. With a longstanding love for film music, the songs are in part composed for marriage with moving picture. 

The London born singer-songsmith has supported the likes of Ed Sheeran and Kate Miller-Heidke, performing at renowned UK venues such as The Troubadour and The Bedford, and toured the United States and India before moving to live in Australia in 2010.  He also formed a band project called Mark Ridout & the Rhythm, a light and bouncy style they call uplifting 'Ocean Funk'.

His voice has been described as "compelling and hugely expressive" (Hotpress Magazine, UK), he has reviewed music for BBC radio and has worked as a music therapist for mental health organisations across the globe.

His song 'All my Sides' featured on Australian feature film; Weavil (2018, dir. Mark Lipkin)

Mark released his debut 'cinematic folk' single FLOOD  16th April '18, with his follow up INSIDE A DREAM out in August.
